GARDEN-4470.ANABIOSIS (2020)
Installation "Garden-4470. Anabiosis", curator: Irina Aksenova, FFTN. Art Gallery, St. Petersburg, 2020
Site-specific installation, sound
In September of 2020, I and Andrey Rylov installed a site-specific installation "Garden-4470" in the garden of the Center for Media Arts in St. Petersburg. It was a bio-empathic sound network inspired by the communication of trees and installed in a city garden. Thanks to its sensors, the installation responded to light and vibration, imitating the squeaks, groans and sighs of trees recorded in a natural forest.
Due to the pandemic, only we and the centre's staff were able to connect to the network. The work could only be seen in an online broadcast. A week later, we had dismantled the installation and reassembled it at the FFTN gallery in the autumn.
The installation had lost its connection to the first location and tried to was trying to make a new one with the gallery space. In the attic of the gallery, the Garden-4470 went into a state of deep sleep to survive the bad times.
